What you need to know about collectible caps

The baseball style cap has been a staple accessory in streetwear culture since the 80s and 90s. They've recently boomed again thanks to a collectors community similar to the one that has formed around sneakers, complete with online forums, social media fan pages and resellers markets.

These hats are synonymous with baseball in particular but they are also commonly worn in other sports like basketball, football, skateboarding and into the world of music.

A canvas for artistic expression, they give the wearer an easy way to play with fashion, personal expression and creativity. Front on, turned backwards or to the side, the cap is a classic and effortless look.

The only question is - fitted or snapback?

The main difference between a fitted hat and a snapback hat is in the way they are adjusted to fit the wearer's head. In terms of style, fitted hats and snapback hats can look quite similar, with both types of hats featuring a flat brim and similar designs and materials. However, the fit and adjustability of the hats can make a big difference in terms of comfort and practicality.

A fitted hat, as the name suggests, is designed to fit snugly on the wearer's head without any adjustability. These hats come in a variety of sizes and are designed to fit specific head measurements. Fitted hats typically have a stretchy band around the inside of the cap, which helps them to stay in place on the wearer's head.

A snapback hat, on the other hand, features an adjustable strap or snaps at the back of the cap that allows the wearer to adjust the fit to their head size. These hats are typically one-size-fits-all, which makes them a more versatile option for people with different head sizes.

Today, caps transcend the sports fields of New York and are just as likely found in a street style photoshoot in Tokyo. Sourcing that crowning fit is a sport in itself.
